Along Derbyshire's longest heritage railway...

We operate passenger services on the line between Wirksworth and Duffield mainly using heritage diesel railcars, and on selected days steam hauled services on the short branch between Wirksworth and Ravenstor.

The Ecclesbourne Valley is one of Derbyshire’s most lovely and unspoilt valleys, stretching from the northern outskirts of Derby, at Duffield, to Wirksworth, an ancient market town known as the Gem of the Peak. The delightful town of Wirksworth offers a variety of cosy pubs, bistros, cafes and traditional shops, with a regular market on Tuesdays, a Farmer’s Market on the first Saturday of each month.

The town is full of odd nooks and crannies and the ancient and fascinating church of St Mary nestles in its small cathedral-like precinct a short walk from the station. At the opposite end of the line, the pleasant village of Duffield also has a number of convenient pubs, cafe’s and shops and visitors wishing to occupy an hour or two can take a leisurely stroll to Eyes Meadow, at the confluence of the River Ecclesbourne and the River Derwent, to see the small nature reserve there. The line also has stations at Idridgehay and Shottle (Cowers Lane) sporting many great walks or where local pubs and amenities can be enjoyed.

The Ecclesbourne Valley Railway has a reputation for a friendly welcome to all and we very much hope you will enjoy your visit to us and to this lovely corner of Derbyshire.
