Guest Locomotive Confirmed
We’re delighted to confirm that we will be welcoming Class 20, number 20166, for our Summer Diesel Gala.
Originally built as D8166 in 1966 by the Vulcan Foundry, in Newton-le-Willows, it spent much of its life operating locally to our railway as was allocated to the Nottingham Division, which included Derby.
Renumbered to 20166 in 1974, and following it’s career with British Rail, it was used for the construction of the Channel Tunnel. Later, it became part of the Harry Needle Railroad Company fleet, and still carries a distinctive de-branded orange livery.
You can see and download the event timetable by clicking HERE (also listed below).
We will also be offering cab rides over the weekend priced at £30 (one way travel) and £60 (full round trip).
This is a unique opportunity to experience the power of these classic diesels and take in the views from the driving seat.
The LMS 10,000 group will have their main frames in the car park on public display and staff will be on hand to answer questions and show people around; they will also have the engine shed open to show visitors what they have been doing.
We will also be welcoming the Derby Lightweight Preservation Group, who will have an exhibition stand on the platform to explain what they’re doing and there will be the chance to have a guided tour of their driving car in the main running shed.
There will be an evening special running on the Saturday, with the guest locomotive and you will be able to pre-book this event – either a train ride only or train ride with fish and chips; there will also be a real ale bar on board.
The Apollo will be open with real ale being served and also the RMB bar.
At Duffield Station, Tom Said’s Micro Brewery will be selling a range of beers and ales.
