This example was new in 1960 from Horwich Works. The locomotive has been in and out of main line service for a number of years, featuring at preserved railways in the meantime. It was originally withdrawn in 1981 only to be reinstated 2 years later. It was then withdrawn again in 1990, but went on loan to the Nene Valley Railway near Peterborough shortly afterwards. Reinstated yet again in 2011, it is now owned by Riviera Trains and has been used for shunting their main line coaching stock at Nemesis Rail's depot in Burton-on-Trent. It carries Riviera Trains' own dark blue livery.
The locomotive came to the EVR in March 2018 initially just for a Diesel Locomotive Weekend gala and has remained there on short term loan ever since. Therefore, it is an ironic twist that the locomotive is officially now still in active service but actually resides on a preserved railway. The locomotive is mostly used for shunting the yard at Wirksworth although does occasionally venture out on passenger specials.
