DESCRIPTION:Over the long Easter weekend\, running from Good Friday (3 April) to Easter Monday (6 April) we have lined up an exciting range of events and activities for all age groups. \nGOOD FRIDAY \nOn Friday\, it’s steam services all day and we will be serving a range of drinks and snack from our take-away kiosk and from our licensed Apollo bar\, which also stocks a range of wines and beers\, along with soft drinks and coffee. \nSATURDAY 4 APRIL \nAlong with our steam services\, which will be running all day\, our Duffield Shopper Special will also be operating to bring people from Duffield (departing 8.20am) to Wirksworth where they can visit the popular Wirksworth Farmers Market (which operates the first Saturday of the month). \nEASTER SUNDAY \nOn Easter Sunday we will be running steam services all day and we will be serving a range of drinks and snack from our take-away kiosk and from our licensed Apollo bar\, which also stocks a range of wines and beers\, along with soft drinks and coffee. \nWe are also serving a 3-course Easter Sunday Roast Lunch for which bookings are essential. \nFollow this LINK for all the details \n>> BOOK EASTER SUNDAY ROAST LUNCH << \nEASTER MONDAY \nFor Easter Monday we have lined up our Family Fun Day\, which will take place in addition to our steam services\, which will include: \n\nEaster Bunny (appearances throughout the day from 10am to 4pm)\nEaster Egg Hunt (included with the ticket price\, with a prize for every child)\nFace Painting (extra charges apply)\nChildren’s Play Zone (with activities for all ages)\nStream Train Rides (normal adult fares apply; U15s travel free & get a free goodie bag\n\nWe will also be running services to our Ravenstor station\, which is included in the ticket price. The postcode for Wirksworth car park is DE4 4FB. The postcode for Rowsley is DE4 2LF. \nBy Bus\nBoth railways are served by the Trent Barton ‘Sixes’ bus service\, which operates between Derby and Bakewell. SUMMARY:Drive an 08 Shunter Experience
DESCRIPTION:On Sunday 12 April we’re offering the chance to drive an 08 shunter\, an experience new for 2026. \nYou will be in charge of driving this heritage diesel locomotive\, plus our Toad brake van\, up our 1-in-27 incline. \nYour experience will start on Platform 3 at Wirksworth station\, where you (and up to six guests) will be introduced to your instructor. This experience will last for around 20 to 30 minutes. \nOnce you have been made familiar with the controls and your guests have boarded\, you will set off heading north towards our maintenance shed\, as you pass this you will start the climb\, you will pass under Cemetery Lane bridge and go around a left hand bend\, as you climb even more before you reach our steepest gradient of 1-in-27\, once you have passed under Cromford Road bridge you will reach the summit and come to a halt on Platform 1 at Ravenstor. \nYou will have a short pause here whilst your guides let you know some of the history of the line and it is also a good photo opportunity. \nThen for the hard part: you will be in full control of the brakes as you take the train back down the steep and challenging gradients\, and come to a stop in Platform 3 at Wirksworth.
