Train Hire

The Wirksworth Express may be hired for events of various kinds ranging from hire of the Buffet Car for meetings, to hire of the full train for a themed dining experience.

Buffet Car only for meetings and small events (static hire):

£10 per hour up to £100 maxiumum

Minimum hire period: 4 hours

For full train hire:

£400 per day (or any part of)

The whole train is non-smoking. The maximum the train can accommodate is 232.

We are also able to arrange various entertainment services, such as the provision of a disco in the train, uniformed railway stewards, and theatrical support for other audio-visual requirements. Please contact us to discuss the cost of these additional services. For charter train hire, the Buffet Car can operate as a normal counter service or on a pay-by-purchase basis.

Operational Train Travel

We have currently restored one kilometre of line between Wirksworth and Gorsey Bank. Should you wish to hire the locomotive hauled train, it can remain in the station for your event (static hire) or it can travel along this short section of line. The train will make as many journeys as you wish between the two points up to 10.00 pm when it will return to the station and be connected to the shore supply in order for power for catering, entertainment etc to be connected.

Hire of Railcar Trains (DMU'S)

The train hire rates for DMU's is as follows:

Full Day (or any part of thereof)

£200.00

The single car DMU can accommodate approximately 50 people and the 2-car DMU approximately 100.

Working Out The Cost

Suppose you wish to have a buffet for 24 guests in the Wirksworth Express using the first class dining car, starting at 6.30pm and finishing at 11.30pm, and you wish the train to travel. In this example, the meal (24 guests at £9.50) will be £228, the basic hire £400. Thus, in this example, the total cost including VAT but excluding any entertainment or other extras is £628.
