Wirksworth in the Sun  

Wirksworth Station

...the heart of where it all began! Wirksworth is a large station at the northerly end of the line. Only the incline remains as a more northerly sprout. Access is down Coldwell Street, the station is 400 metres from Market Square.

There are several main attractions at Wirksworth Station for all to enjoy. The main station is open every day from 10am until 4pm, with trains running at weekends and in the summer, on Wednesdays.

Some of the attractions at Wirksworth include:

  • Services to Ravenstor (for the National Stone Centre) and Idridgehay.

  • A buffet car (open summer Saturdays and Event Days) onboard the Gatwick Express.

  • 2 'main line' platforms (4 platforms in total!)

  • Children's Play Area

  • Museum car

  • Quarry history attraction and picnic area

  • Yard viewing

  • Gift shop and indoor/outdoor seating area's

  • Narrow Gauge light railway (due to open late 2008)
