Restoration of Class 119 Driving Motor Brake Composite W51073

Cant rail
Sanding Pads at the Ready

Progress reported on 29/04/13.

The final progress weekend of April saw the welding repairs to the cant rail complete. The wooden door pillars now have to be installed but the end of the metalwork was declared, to the relief of our colleague who has kindly done the work.

This weekend the sound of the rotary sander could be heard nearly continuously as many of the items that will feature in the guards van were attacked. The list includes, but is not limited to, the guards cupboard, the guards van table, window surrounds, Engine Isolation Fork holders, parcels shelf etc... The team has decided that these items would be stripped back to bare wood and given the stain and varnish treatment to make them stand out more. BR used some very good quality wood and this finish shows the craftsmanship off much better.

A start has been made on preparing the body for repainting...
