Restoration of Class 119 Driving Motor Brake Composite W51073

Rust removal Yet Another Exhausting Day

Progress reported on 27/04/09.

I guess with most restoration projects, there is a large chunk of time spent preparing and removing old rust and grime. This one is no exception. Both inside and outside is covered in over 15 years worth of general dirt build up and rust.

In the photograph, you can see team member John Stokes removing rust and dirt from the lighting control boxes before they receive a nice coat of paint. The Battery Charging socket has recently been painted as well.

As you can see in this photograph, the rear exhaust has received a coat of paint just like the other components of it reported earlier. It is surprising what a difference a coat of paint can make.

The corridor connection will require serious overhaul before the unit enters service.
