The start of 2009 sees activity on the Ecclesbourne Valley railway intensify as our Dash to Duffield gathers pace. In this issue you will see detailed reports from departmental managers on specific areas of activity in track clearance, drainage repair, sleeper renewal, track alteration, platform repair plus the preparation of additional rolling stock and all the other activities that are associated with rehabilitating nearly 5 miles of railway for passenger use.

One of the more exciting aspects of project managing the Dash to Duffield is doing the sums. Nothing is guaranteed more to make one spring out of bed on a cold, damp morning than the exciting prospect of sitting down in front of a laptop and crunching the numbers to see how a change in the price of scrap steel in Shanghai can affect when we get through to Duffield.
